Once, in a quiet little town, there lived a kind shoemaker named Thomas. Though he was skilled, hard times had left him with only enough leather for one last pair of shoes.

That night, Thomas carefully cut the leather, ready to sew in the morning. But when he awoke, he gasped—on his workbench sat a perfect pair of shoes, expertly stitched and polished!

Later that day, a gentleman entered the shop, tried on the shoes, and smiled. "These are the finest shoes I've ever worn!" He paid more than expected, allowing Thomas to buy enough leather for two pairs.

That night, he prepared the leather once more—but when he woke, the shoes were already made. Each morning, the same magic happened. Four pairs, then eight, then twelve. Before long, Thomas and his wife, Clara, had a thriving shop.

One snowy night before Christmas, Thomas whispered to Clara, "Let’s stay up and see who helps us." They hid behind a cupboard and waited.

At midnight, two tiny elves appeared! Wearing nothing but rags, they cheerfully worked, their tiny hands stitching faster than Thomas had ever seen.

Clara’s heart melted. "They’ve given us so much. Let’s make them something in return!"

She stitched tiny shirts, warm coats, pants, and socks, while Thomas crafted two little pairs of shoes. They set the gifts on the table and hid once more.

At midnight, the elves arrived. They saw the presents and clapped with joy! Dressing in their new clothes, they danced across the shop, singing:

"Now we are dressed so fine to see,
Why should we longer cobblers be?"

With a final laugh, they vanished into the snowy night, never to return—but their kindness had already changed everything.

From that day on, Thomas and Clara lived happily, their shop always full, their hearts forever grateful.
